This plan of Ur's financial district shows a tightly grouped neighborhood of houses along narrow streets and alleys. Although the district may have faced a market square, many of the commercial transactions probably took place along the streets, which could have been shaded from the sun as in modern Middle Eastern markets or souqs. The house of Dumuzi-gamil is small, and may have simply been his office.
